The Orange Box Review (PC & Xbox 360) - Reviews

US, October 9, 2007 - There's never been a package on a console like The Orange Box. For $60 you get five games: Half-Life 2, HL2: Episode One, HL2: Episode Two, Portal, and Team Fortress 2. If you're keeping score, that's one of the best shooters of all time, its two expansion packs, a new and innovative puzzle game, and an off-the-wall multiplayer game. That's in one box, on one disc. If there's one must buy game of the year, it is, without a doubt, The Orange Box. All five components are excellent, with Half-Life 2 and Episode Two being the two finest single-player first-person shooters on Xbox 360.

Click here for the full review.

PS. The Orange Box is now released in the US. It comes out in Australia on the 18th October and in the UK on the 19th October.

Individuals quoting MRSP prices for Orange Box are sources of bad, useless and/or misleading information. Disregard any information they provide.

You should not pay more than $40 for Orange Box. Individuals implying or suggesting otherwise are retarted.

Finished both games. Portal taking roughly 4.8 hours and EP2 taking 5 hours. Portal was short but I think the length was just right as the same thing over and over could get boring if done for too long. I was compelled to go on because of the story and it satisfied me. I expect a Portal 2 in the future.

As for Episode 2...Valve have improved a lot in their design. I really like the AI now. So much more challenging such as the headcrabs running away when they are close to death. I also liked the Antlion Workers although they were a bit tough at times and I think Valve loved spamming them smile - smile The game as a whole was great. They had some kickass moments and some funny comments especially by Mr Vort who follows you. I suggest to those who are gonna play it explore a lot because you'll find some funny conversations between rebels and such. Now I ran at pretty decent graphics and that handled pretty well so I was happy. But my flashlight symbol was that huge square you get when you are missing a texture..Not too bad but then the sound was acting up as well. It was too quiet and Portal was fine so...In the end I used ear-plugs to listen as the sound was unpredictable at times. But again that ending...Almost like a play...I am really interested to see where Valve take us next...Quite hard to imagine and no preview of EP3 was made. In the end bravo Valve. I look forward to mods using the new effects and such. I loved the cinematic physics.

Right lastly like I keep saying I'll be recording Ep2 and Portal and putting them on Youtube pretty soon. My PC is coming on Friday now and I'll have to set it up and such. I'll say when I've uploaded the first lot in my TWHL journal.

Anyway enjoy the rest of the game for those still playing. And for everyone else...BUY IT!
