| Half-Life 2 SP Silent Room Map - File Description |
 |
Description:
This Silent Room Single Player Map has been made by Brian Lee, also known as xbrianll. In Silent Room, you play as just another average citizen of an average city. On a certain day, you and Quinn, a friend of yours, were invited by Danny, your paranoid friend, to party in his home. As it turned dark, you got too drunk to even stand up and so had to lie down in Danny's bed. You fell asleep... and woke up at midnight only to find the door locked... which is when your ordeal begins.

Special thanks-
I'd like to specially thank the NMRiH (No more room in hell) team and their upcoming mod for inspiring me to create this map. Please visit their website: www.nomoreroominhell.com.
Also, I'd like to thank the NMRiH forum community for nurturing my interest in zombie games and mods for Half-life 2.
---
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS**:
First, unzip the files into your Half-life 2 map directory, which is usually C:/Program Files/Valve/Steam/Steamapps/(Your account name)/Half-life 2/hl2/maps.
Then, you can run it by opening the developer console and typing in 'map Silent_room_ave'. However, if you cannot find the map's name in the list, it means that you have placed the map files in the wrong folder.

BUGS:
So far, I found no bugs. But if you happen upon one, e-mail me.
COMMENTS:
I've tested the gameplay and balanced all the factors that affect a player's chance to win. I've tested countless times the map so there should not be anything wrong that will stop you from winning. | |

But I'm not complaining. I wouldn't see them so easy if they were smaller. But very nice. A bit crowded, but that gave it the "apartment feel". |

_Starbug_ From: (London) Joined: September 7th, 2005 Posts: 22 | this ain't too bad! it's a nice change from blasting everything, a sort of puzzle game, but with zombies
the lighting was a bit odd in places, for instance the important entities such as the zombie and the dead guy were fully lit, yet the area around them was dark? It would have been nice to be able to use the light switches, but i'm just being picky
the only real problem i had was the bathroom key, because i picked up that rusty one and he said "judging from the rust, this must be the bathroom key". This was quite misleading though, as the door still didn't open, and unfortunately rather than think i had missed a key, i instead doubted your ability and assumed there was something wrong with the map , until i read the walkthrough and found out i had actully missed a key! I think prehaps the character should have said something like "the key doesn't fit! mabye i missed something?" to counter this probem.
other than that, nice work |

xbrianll From: (Singapore) Joined: November 6th, 2005 Posts: 4 | Thanks for all of your supports. I will make sure these problems will not plague my next map. As a matter of fact, I am planning to test my mapping abilities to the extreme limit by making a large school map that uses almost the same gameplay as this map, but has more story elements, a wider variety of puzzles and, it's not confirmed yet, but I may put in an NPC who will share your scary experience as well, but must not die or else you lose the game.
To comment on my own map, if I could, I could've made a few changes to it, such as making the character talk after trying to use a door and other things. But this is the final version of the map, so I can't. Re-releasing this map will not be a good option as people would be bored of it by then. |

xbrianll From: (Singapore) Joined: November 6th, 2005 Posts: 4 | Unfortunately, my next map will not be about darkness and fear. But it will be a special, huge Sourcefort map with a unique gameplay.
The reason is that I found making Half-life 2 singleplayer maps stressful to make and I wanted to take a break from it. Plus, I've always wanted to publish a map for Sourcefort but was unable to do so because I can't seem to join the Sourceforts forums. But, work has already begun on my second 'Silent' map but halted in favor of my Sourceforts map, so expect me to continue it after I'm done with the Sourceforts map. |
