That reminds me, maybe you could put some pretty fluffy sweaters on the headcrabs to make them more child-friendly. And change all the weapons to water pistols. stick out tongue

why not make the crossbow bolts have those little 'suction cups' on the end, so they dont hurt when they hit people on the head, or maybe give gordon some water-wings for when he's in the water? HL2 without blood, its like a POLO mint, without a hole

But seriously, if you're young enough to be offended by the blood, you probably shouldn't be playing the game to begin with. But NJFragger, except from a few comments, I don't think the majority of people have something against it. It's just fun to think about how much you can change HL2 to make it more friendly to children.

...Replace the weapons with NERF guns?

Hey there. Thanks for this mod! I have a nephew whos really interested in computer games (hes pretty young) and I really think HL2 is fun, but its bloody at the same time, so this is a great tool to use to he would be able to play it!

And sorry, excuse the HL2FILES community.. they have changed over the years, Ive witnessed many changes for the past 5 or so years this has been here (was hl1files mind you), they just dont seem to understand the work thats done, and they get it all for free? Yet they complain when they have to pay so, doesnt make any sense at all.

Not trying to be mean to any of you HL2Community members or anything, I just think you guys should lighten up! Dont be so negative all the time! And be happy for all the stuff we get right here on this website for nothing... just remember.

We are paying with respect, and if you cant respect whats being given to you, you dont deserve to have it.

Peace out.

Oh, the concept, removing blood for the benefit of younger players, is fine, but in this case I think that's pointless. The entire game is a vicious story of genocide, of misery, of combat, of an overrun earth being torn to pieces by an alien empire, of humans being enslaved and mutilated, of most of earth's species already extinct. Removing blood from Half-Life 2 only removes a small portion of the mature content.

Here's some more things you'd need to do to make HL2 'junior-friendly'.

First, you'd have to edit the zombie skins, as they're very gory. Then what about the Striders' ability to impale people? Filter the coarse language that appears on occaision? (Barney says s**t when injuredkilled) What about the half decomposed corpses? The scorched human remains you happen across in the rubble? I could go on all day. HL2 isn't a game for children, and simply removing blood isn't going to change that. That's what we're trying to say.

I think the idea is for everyone to share their use for the game. It's his opinon that kids shouldn't be exposed to violence and noone is forced to like that.

Geez....what are we in? Junior High School? What are you attacking this guy's mod for? Sure you can just get rid of the blood with a code, but who cares?

At #1-6: Pff...just so immature....are you guys still in elementary school?

At #13: O.o god, a world without blood, its a nightmare! Oh god! I think I'm gonna die because there's no blood! AHH!! Seriously though....wtf are you complaining about? Just don't download the mod. O.o, problem solved!

At #14: There are plenty of good games without blood, just because you can't comprehend that, doesn't mean that there isn't. And because of that, everyone can own a computer....duh...

At #17: Again....if you don't like it, don't download it. Stop it with the life story....

At #18: Look in a mirror.

At #19: Well, its very simple, some people just can't stand the sight of blood. They may like FPS's, just not blood. Not every FPS has blood....and yes, it is true!

At #24: Um.....at this point...I'm not going to dignify this comment with a response...

Holy sh*t this mod is stupid. Beating a guy to death with a crowbar without blood is somehow less violent than beating a guy to death with a crowbar WITH blood? People are so stupid.

Im going to be honest..... I think there is not point to making this mod noble as it is especially as when I was little i used to look for mods like this. But now that I think about it I probably should have been playing those games, and I think this is in the same boat. I mean as we get older as kids you show us certain things little by little. But violence is violence and that it..... so I think you should either play the game as is or just wait. Now with that said I applaud your efforts a lot . But for this game I feel it to be futile. Not saying that every fps has to have blood but in this case given the story being told and the feel given there is no use trying to remove because the effect can be just as desensitizing.

Well, the mod might not be noble. I just really think its not right to criticize and mock it. Its immature, and it makes me wonder how old these people are, if they think about what they say....and if they're still in elementary school....

There are plenty of reasons why someone would want to remove blood. Several people have posted examples already. I'd bet the people who voted this into the ground have never uploaded anything. This guy put his work up for your judgment, and you abused it.

To all who've said "for the benefit of younger players": Don't you mean for the over protective parents who would fall down and die if their sweet little boy's innocence was "taken away"? Like no one under 18 has gotten a paper cut and seen blood. Roll Eyes (sarcastic)

And about the people yelling that it doesn't matter if you can just type in a code into the console and do the same thing that this mod does, of course it matters. This mod is pointless, because you can do the exact same thing without downloading and installing this.

And if they don't use the console or don't know how to use it? Just wants a simple mod where you don't have to type in the damn code all the time. Geez, go back to Idiocy Town jackass.

Thanks to this I can play HL now.
And no they are NOT over-protective. I thank you.

Uh, I really think that you are beginning to make quite a few enemies for yourself if you try to argue with angry gamers. That point aside, I believe that in almost all cases, this mod is pointless. If MY kids wanted to play this game at like 8 years old, I wouldn't say, "Well, let's just take out the blood..." Because I'd look, and see the rating, view some trailers, and realize that this game is too adult-themed for young kids. Saying that removing blood makes this any better is like saying that it's okay to show a kid hardcore porn as long as there's a pixel-blur. It just makes no sense, because the rest of the content and all of the themes are there, you've just obfuscated what some deem to be the more offensive parts. And now directly to you. Yes, I'm talking to you Lightstryke. You get off your high horse right now, because you have no right to call these people immature when you blatantly attacked them as well (i.e. "Look in a mirror." Very mature). I believe that every time you post, you should see the 7 rules for posting: maybe read #5 specifically. Just because others flame doesn't mean that you are automatically allowed to flame them. Rule #4 can come in handy too- "Go back to Idiocy Town, jack**s" is hardly flattering. And in rebuttal to you comment that some people don't want to "type in the damn code all the time," there are plenty of ways to make a console "remember" to enter certain settings, you just add the command in the shortcut icon's description in Windows. In this case, you would add the command "-violence_ablood "0"" (without the outer quotes) into the "Target" bar for the shortcut after the "-applaunch 220". I also hate to nitpick, but you DID invite it upon yourself: Your response to #13 (a world without blood) is actually not so funny or ironic, because I think (and I might be wrong here) that without blood, you probably wouldn't live long enough to type the antagonistic messages that you have. You also say "If you don't like it, don't download it," but couldn't that be extended to also mean "If you don't agree with someone's post, ignore it?" Maybe you ought to take your own advice... Also, if younger players are "mature enough" to play HL2 in the first place, wouldn't they me also "mature enough" to see that shooting, blowing up, and otherwise mutilating people will result in blood? I just think that to remove the blood in this case is almost irresponsible. My reasoning is this: with a game as deep and immersive as HL2 is, the blood and gore can act as a "safety gate" against children who would normally not play sch a game. If they are afraid of seeing the blood, then I can't see how in the world they'd ever make it through Ravenholm, blood or not...

You....aren't entirely wrong. To be honest, I did read the rules before posting. And then, I reread the posts the people above did, and then I didn't really care about what rule 4 or 5 said. These people struck a point in me that...I dunno, people rarely cross. More of...I'm tired of people not having the decency to say... "Gee, this mod does what its supposed to do, I'm not going to use it, but it's good for those people who don't want to see the blood." Instead, they say, "Great, now get rid of the crowbar while your at it. Oh, and maybe a script that bleeps out all the swear words aswell." And what really surprised me about that post is its from a Moderator. A lot of people don't make mods or show their creativity because too many of them get shot down by people like these. I realize and applaud the people that were kind about it, like #15, but the other people didn't really have an excuse. And, by retaliating against them, I may be looking about as bad, but these people don't usually respond to little gestures or kind "stops." Trust me, I've had experience. The little modder in me sort of...got mad that people could make these comments, when half of them contributed nothing to the community themselves. They're users, and they don't really think about how actually hard it is to make something creative for a game like this. While this may be primitive and simple, it's still something people may use. Notice the 600+ downloads. Same for the FakeFactory mods, that team worked their asses off to make a photorealistic experience for people, for free, and there are still those meat heads that email them with hate mail that is really horrible, because they didn't like one or two things about the mod. I mean, the guy(s) took time out of their day to make something for you people, and you shoot it down because it's not what you wanted or not what you intended, or it just wasn't up to your standards. It *****es me off. Royally. Now there, I'm done ranting.

Fair enough, but you seemed to be... well it looked like you were *crusading* for this mod. We understand that to make a mod requires skill, but then so do many other things in life which are critiqued more often than they are praised; just look at politics!

I suppose my point was however, that while it was an interesting mod, this is mostly irrelevant and ineffective, regardless of its intentions.

My mother wouldnt let me play any game that hade more than a minimal amount of blood or gore. (I barely got TF2.) So I am very grateful for this mod, so now I can play Half-Life 2. Thanks, no matter what they say, you have real talent.
