Description:
Awakening is a Singleplayer mod for Half-Life 2, placing you in the boots of Corporal Adrian Shepard, known from Half-Life Opposing Force. He is brought back by the G-man a bit before the events in Half-Life 2. The mod offers you a intro and 5 playable levels good for about a hour of playtime. It contains custom music, voice, textures and prop models.

wow, these screenshots look amazing, i like the last few pictures most. I like how you constructed the level design, it defintally looks like its worth a download.

This is a great mod!
The map is design is very well done, i have reached the antlion levels but it seems to crash a lot in this area. Maybe someone else can check this for me.

Anyway i hope to see more from you guys.

@Shivas, no Gabe Newell said that they are not going to bring back characters like him. They are only focusing on current characters, such as Gordon or Alyx, and new characters, like the one in Portal.

The mod looks really good, should any others be released after this?

now heres an idea, use the CS:Source hands for Adrians hands (doubt u could get em to hold hl2 weps but hey its worth a try u know?) it would add a bit more...lol definition rather than simply add camo to gordon hands but ya. Shepheard i think played a big role (i mean hell why would gman want him if he wasnt important??)

anyway back to the mod, its really good and theres some good concept in game,. yea it crashes at the antlion bit just after I've switched the power back on. But its well made. Wouldve been nice to see some old weapons, wrench? or maybe even just an mp5, i dont know, it just wouldve been nice.
Still it's well worth the download!

Awesome mod. I only have a few gripes though.

*spoilers*

I had a hard time finding out where to go in the submarine part. I didn't know what to do when I was outside the room with the zombies trpped inside. I used noclip after about 10 minutes of backtracking and searching. The other part that confused was when I got the super gravity gun. Why give players a super grav gun when they aren't going to be able to use it?

Overall, 8/10.

It felt like a retail game!

you did a fantastic job of creating a whole new species in the end segment. I was almost anticipating some epic Opposing force style boss to come out of that huge cavern when I pressed the button smile but that ending worked really well too! Great story, fantastic flow and I LOVED how every section in the game made sense! You didn't just have a warehouse with random crap you had a quarry with marble slats! Genius! I too got a bit stuck trying to figure out the zombie office situation, but it wasn't a big deal. Props to you for creating this SP mod with such high quality.

I tought I fixed the crashing in the last level bij moving the supergravgun deeper in the level but looks like it was something else.

At the office, I added a zombie breaking the barricade to give a clue, and the orriginal way is driving the verhicle inside (it opens a gate)
I orriginally intended another road level after that level.

Decided to give it a go. Quite impressed with the level design, didn't have any of the crashing problems reported but I did get stuck near the zombie room bit, the door didn't have a 3d knob so I didn't know it was a "door".
I found the voices humorous but that cant be helped. I still enjoyed playing through though.

#13 does have it right. I read it in PC Gamer (it was either that or Games for Windows, don't remember for sure which) an article all about Episode 2 several months ago.

In the article, Newell all but confirms that Valve will bring Shepherd back for later Half-Life universe story arcs once Gordon Freeman's story is concluded. He says something to the effect of: "I'm sure we'll see him again eventually." If that isn't the verbatim quote, it's pretty close.

Last I heard, there's even some substantial speculation that the player-character in Portal may be Adrian Shepherd incognito. Although I also think I heard recently that the player-character may be female, but I don't know if that was ever confirmed.


Anyway, point is, Shepherd's eventual return is very plausible. Marc Laidlaw wrote the storyline for Opposing Force too, so it's not like Shepherd is purely Gearbox's character, as some argue. Just like Barney Calhoun, he's Laidlaw's character, and just like Barney, Adrian could very well make a re-appearance.

GAH! I cannot complete the Antlion tunnel stage due to the game crashing constantly

In fact I have an auto-save that CTDs 2 seconds after loading frown

Other then that this mod is AMAZING. This is the quality I wish everyone would put into their maps and mods.

creating a new game and launcing the last chapter might get you past the crash, I also will probebly releas ea updated version of the mod, I think I fixed the crash but have to test some more

I played this MOD from begin to end and have a few things to say:

This mod disappointed me very much. The cutscene at the beginning is well thought, but a little bit long and not very useful. The voice acting isn't that good. For a amateur voice acting, it could be better. The mic that is used, isn't very good (no, it is not my Speakers or Soundcard, I own good quality speakers, no cheap Computer speakers). Also you can hear that they are not English people (I'm not English too), not because the grammer is wrong (that's good), but because there is no emotion in it, so it sounds like it is forced to immitate the voice of (for example) G-Man. And if you guys are English, well, then do something about it!

The level design isn't that bad, but not special. There are several dumb bugs, like the sinked boats in the water were you can't jump on, but there is actually build land to jump on it, so that's weird and not finalised (maybe make a player clip or something). Later on when you get teleported, the level design was much better and (thanks god) looked much less at HL2 itself.

I hadn't really the feeling that you were playing with Shepherd. I played Opposing Force and that felt much better to play wth someone else. This was more like a new little 'adventure' (there wasn't really a adventure for me) with Gordon Freeman.

The mod stays a bit boring and it doesn't has the power to play it further. I know making a SinglePlayer mod that defeats HL2 or is just as good as HL2 is hard to make and I know that it is for 'free' (you still have to buy the game), but there are a lot of Multiplayer mods that are better to spend your time on and that can match the addiction of what games must do to you.

Nice tried, but didn't worked on that good for me. Still I wish you guys luck, because there is definetly spend time on and the quality isn't that bad (I had no crash bugs either). Stiil, keep up the work guys smile

P.S. There is actually a better SinglePlayer mod. Look for Rock 24. This has costum voice-acting too and has a better level design. Also the voice acting sounds professional.

Very nice mod. The level design is good. The voice acting isn't bad either. However, some parts with battle were a bit difficult (had to try a couple times). Also, why was Adrian Shephard kept in a rebel base while in stasis?

Extract these files into your SteamSteamAppsSourcemods directory using the subdirectory structure set in the Zip file. When you're done you should have an Awakening directory in Sourcemods with multiple subdirectories inside it.

To the creator of this mod: Great job - one of the best mods I've played in terms of new content. Some of the fights were tough, but balanced. The new locations were very well done. The bull antlion scared the crap out of me! Keep it up!

Been looking forward to this, but for some reason the mod will not start for me. I have the latest 1.1 version installed, but when I try to start the mod the splash screen is in windowed mod, and the mod starts only momentarily then shuts off. And ideas would be appreciated.

I've installed the mod in Steam. Ran it, did my config but when I click on "Start new Game" nothing happens. ??? Anyone have a similiar problem??

I have a problem!!!

When i've downloaded the file i get a folder with all the files (dosn't install because it's only files). The i pressed extraact all files and when thats done i get the same folder.

What am i doing wrong and how do i install it?
