#5 - Posted by: ZanderArch (Member) on 10-04-2006 at 05:31
Could try a no draw line in the texture file for them, but that's if it's seprate from the model, and if you know what the command is, which I forgot.

I'll just say it looks intresting.
Always had a feeling Fake Factory was going to do something like this...

If only you made the helmet on the soldier closed up so you couldn't tell what model it was, and just add moveable eyes, I would love you.

 #15 - installing spawn codes - Posted by: SirReno7 (Member) on 11-19-2007 at 11:06
Here's what I did. First, install the characters as usual, dumping the "materials" & "models" folders over yours. Then, notice above the screenshots, in the description for this file, you'll notice 4 spawn codes. At first, I ALSO didn't know what to do with them. So I "Googled" how to install spawn codes in Garry's Mod. What I found out is: Inside your folder
...garrysmodgarrysmodsettingsspawnlist
you'll find a file called: hl2_characters.txt
You'll need to edit that file, by adding those 4 spawn codes. When I opened the file, I noticed existing spawn codes for 103 different objects. I'm not too experienced at things like this, & didn't want to mess anything up at the END of the file, so I put them NEAR the end, but left the final object (which was dog.mdl) in tact, along with the ending brackets of the file. I selected the entire code from object 102 (which is combine_mine01.mdl) - I selected everything from (& including) the quotation marks BEFORE the number 102, up to (but NOT including) the quatation marks before the number 103. I selected this portion, & copied it using CTRL+C then pasted it using CTRL+V five times (I really only needed four, but the first paste simply pastes the data over ITSELF, creating four extra slots). From there, it's a simple matter of changing the actual data & numbers. I changed the number 103 (dog) to 107. Then I changed the four "extra 102's" to 103, 104, 105, & 106. Then, for those four slots, I replaced the information "models/props_combine/combine_mine01.mdl" to the four codes above, which are:
"models/humans/group01/femalx_01.mdl"
"models/humans/group01/femalx_07.mdl"
"models/humans/group02/malx_09.mdl" and
"models/humans/forpse1.mdl"
(notice I only replaced the four EXTRA 102's, but still left my ORIGINAL 102 in tact).
Then I saved the 'hl2_characters.txt' & loaded up Garry's Mod. Sure enough, they're THERE! I spawned them the same way you'd spawn ANY object, found in the HL2 characters section, at the bottom, near the end of the list (located between the combine mine & the "dog" (which is exactly where I PUT them, in the .txt). If you know what you're doing, you can put them wherever you want, but just remember that when you "insert" an item into the .txt, you'll need to update ALL of the numbers corresponding to each object AFTER it, so it's easier to just add them to (or near) the END of the list). Have fun. I hope this helps MooMoo & anyone else needing to know how to install spawn codes.

***By the way, the actual contents, arrangement of contents, and NUMBER of contents in the 'hl2_characters.txt' file might VARY depending upon which version of Garry's Mod you're using, and whether or not you have "Counter-Strike: Source" &/or "Day of Defeat: Source." The version of Garry's Mod I used when installing spawn codes, is the one which came out AFTER "Garry's Mod 10" -- the one which HAS no number accosiated with it (because it's the final version). I recommend CSS & DODS, since they add WAY more objects & maps to use in Garry's Mod.

****Right now I'm working on figuring out how to install these 4 models into the actual one-player mode of Half Life 2, as living NPC's, replacing some of the in-game random characters/zombies (but not MAIN characters) with THESE. Any help would be appreciated (because I'm still a semi-noob). Specifically, I'd like to replace some of the female characters near the beginning of the game, who help you run through their apartments & get to the roof (before you even meet Alyx) with the chicks from this file, and replace some of the zombies you'll meet a little later in the game with the male zombie from this pack. Thanks in advance for any help, and big thanks to the creator of this pack.

 #16 - a slight correction - Posted by: SirReno7 (Member) on 11-19-2007 at 11:27
hmmm... for some reason this forum seems to accept slashes (which are used in web addresses), but NOT backslashes (which are used in PC folder locations)... So to correct my above post, the location of your 'hl2_characters.txt' file should be:
...garrysmod/garrysmod/settings/spawnlist
except replace those slashes with backslashes.
I ALSO don't see any option to EDIT my previous comment, so I'm posting this correction as a new comment. frown
