Garry's Mod Fakefactory Alyx Models Pack v1.1 UPDATED - File Description

Description:
This is an updated Fakefactory's female model pack for Garry's Mod. It's a lot smaller than the original release at only 619 megabytes. The smaller filesize is due to the removal of unused textures that weren't filtered from the last release. 32 of the 36 models are now player models as well, the other 4 are non-Alyx models.

You must put the "Alyx" folder into your "Garrysmod -> Materials -> Models" folder. There are some models that require that folder to work properly. Note: this will mess up the default Valve Alyx model's textures. To fix this you can take any model you like from this pack and make it the new default Alyx model. To do this just take the .mdl, .phy, .dx80.vtx, .dx90.vtx, .sw & .vtx and rename them all to "Alyx" and obviously leave the extensions.

Warning: This pack contains many models and may have unskinned or unclothed ones. Adult users only!

Garry's Mod Fakefactory Alyx Models Pack v1.1 UPDATED - Readme
Readme File:

Author: FakeFactory.
Compiler: Illuminati
Current version: 1.1

Version History:

4/17 – Added player models for Fake's female models, with the exception of the 4 non-Alyx models.

- Got rid of tons of unused textures resulting in greatly reduced model pack size.

4/11 – Initial release.

Installing: *Important, read everything carefully*
You must put the "Alyx" folder that is in the same folder as this readme, into your "Garrysmod/Materials/Models/" folder.
There are some models that require that folder to be in that location to work properly.
Note, this will mess up the default Valve Alyx model's textures.
To fix this you can take any model you like from this pack and make it the new default Alyx model. To do this just take the .mdl and it's .phy,
.dx80.vtx,.dx90.vtx,.sw.vtx and rename the .mdl to "Alyx" and obviously leave the extension. Put everything else into your
"Addons" folder of Gmod.

Known Issues:
There are some missing textures with only about 5 of the models, this however is *very* minimal. I cannot find the
missing textures for these models even when I dump all the material folders into Gmod. I'm going to assume that FakeFactory forgot
them.

Uninstalling:
To uninstall, all you have to do is remove 2 folders. The first one being "FakeFactory Models" from your "Addons" folder.
The second is the "Alyx" folder from your "Garrysmod -> Materials -> Models".

Other Thoughts:
If you do not wish to have the player models, simply delete the "FakeFactory_player_models.lua" from your "Lua/Autorun/" Folder.

That all being said, have fun with the model pack and thanks for downloading. :D

This still doesn't work for me. There was no "models folder where you say there should be one so I made one and put everything where you say and I cannot find these models from your pack when running Garrysmod. I'm using VISTA x64 and Steam. How do you spawn these models??

Put the "Alyx" folder into your "Garrysmod/Materials/Models/" folder.
Put everything else into your "Addons" folder of Gmod.

The instructions for installation are better this time. Hopefully they'll match what you've posted. Gotta uninstall my GMOD because I installed your files all over the place as I didn't have full, detailed, installation instructions. Thanks!

These work nice thanks, except for using them as player models, as when I select them, I'm Kleiner, anyone know why?

Once the models are installed where do we select them? When we click NPC will they interact or are they just for ragdoll posing?

Okay! So it's installed properly and I figured it out all by myself that you use the browser to find the models. However, some of the models don't appear in the browser. Any reason for it? These models are spectacular, just spectacular! I'll be using them as default Alyxes.

How about different versions of the Mossman chick? She gets neglected. Seeing her in some other costumes or not ( hint hint ) would be cool!

I actually didn't change the install instructions...All I did was add "Installing:" at the beginning.

@Korolev61:
I'm not sure what you did wrong, all that I can tell you is that there are no missing textures. I troubleshooted all the textures for 24 hours straight. You must be installing it wrong, or maybe accidentally deleted a materials folder.

I know it's a .rar, if the folder wasn't compressed it would be over 1 gig. To extract a .rar or any compression format for that matter Download IZArc, it's the all-in-one easy to use ultimate archiving utility. http://www.izarc.org/index.html

No because I deleted a lot of the unused textures from the first one. The only thing that I added were the player version of the rag dolls, other than that though, all I did was deleted stuff.

On future version, there's really not anything more for me to do until Fake releases more models. As soon as he does though, expect those models to be included.

No Fake hasn't made one but it would be neat to have one! Or maybe some nude versions of the chicks in the resistance.

I'm merely the hexer and compiler. I can't model or texture. Plus I don't think Fake would like me to be altering his models.

Many of Fake's models are already modeled and skinned nude, he simply added clothes over top of them. For instance, the underwear civvy woman has a full nude body, it is skinned and complete, but covered with clothes. Point being, it would be more an issue of Fake removing the clothes from the models (as in, deleting polies) than it would creating the necessary parts.

I have never looked at the Mossman model (personally I think Fake's version is flat out ugly) but theres a good shot it is modeled nude underneath the clothes (such an unecessary amount of polies! whew...)...and there is an easy way to check. Simply spawn the ragdoll, turn on noclip, and go 'inside' it. If you see the nude, its modeled. If you see nothing, its not

Wow Brenthanial, I'd read that before about the models being nude so that clothing moves more natural. That way we could make Batgirl or Supergirl models out of the female characters. I'd love to do a classic Star Trek mod of HL2 and am getting more software today to start practicing.

You're partly right, the models do have a nude skin underneath the clothing, but a lot of the times parts of the upper and lower body are biped out. Removing the clothes is easy, all you have to do is edit the .vmt and put "$translucent" 1, then go into the .vft and erase the texture. This method how ever is very crude and the erased textures alway end up being larger in size than it would be if there was an actual texture there. On top of that, erasing the textures causes other problems such as exposing unfinished meshes with the models, because the texture you erased was supposed to cover it up. So, I'm just depending on Fake for the models and textures.

Thanks Illuminati. Has anyone tried that texture erase on Mossman to see what's there? I tried Brenthanial's suggestion and noclipped through both Alyx and Mossman but all I saw was 'hollow' and clothes.

Believe it or not I'm a professional cartoonist, comics/animation and have been dying to do some skins and modding with HL2. I just got some long lists of sites with tutorials and will be studying. It doesn't look too complex but starting with a hottie makes the enthusiasm go a long way.

I hope to make a mod one day of the classic 'Alien' movies or some of the classic sci-fi movies and tv shows like the original "The Thing" and "Lost in Space" or "Star Trek".

Just something to do while farting around for fun.

It doesn't work that way. You have to go into the model it self using XVI32, and see what textures that model uses. The you have to find those textures, it's going to be about 4 to 8 different textures depending on the model.

I think you should make at least 3 textures invisible, and they are named as mossman_shirt, mossman_jeans or something like that so they aren't so hard to find. there is also easier way to make them disappear, just add "$no_draw" "1" line just before the first command line after { -mark and save it. no deleting textures or anything, just that command and mossmans shirt is gone. no joke. if you want her shirt back, just delete that command and there you go.

unfortunately, if you do that to mossman, her upper body won't show up, there is nothing under her clothes. you can try to do this for some Alyx models. in some models, there IS actually a skin under her clothes, no invisible spots.

I can't believe I can't install this pack again.

I had to do a total uninstall of HL2, Ep1, Ep2, Garrys Mod because it kept shutting off my DSL connection. Steam didn't help with the troubleshooting at all but some of us customers discovered that the HL2, Ep1, didn't cause the shut off but when installing Garry's Mod or Ep 2 it did. Real pain.

So now I reinstalled GMOD and tried to install this pack and no luck finding the models. The thing is again, Garrysmod has two folders. The main folder and then a secondary folder. Put the other files in the addons folder but there is no 'materials' folder in the main garrysmod folder. I put one there and put the 'fakefactorymodels' folder in there but no luck. Tried putting it into the second 'garrysmod' folder and no luck. Any help?

Nahka, I'm confused, you gave a solution but you're saying it doesn't work? Does it work on Mossman or not? Does it work in some maps and not others?

You never, never, ever put anything into the main Garrysmod folder. You alway, always put everything into the secondary folder.

"You never, never, ever put anything into the main Garrysmod folder. You alway, always put everything into the secondary folder."

Thank you, but that doesn't answer the direct directory to put the files in. What's with all this mystery stuff from developers? They make these outstanding mods and then don't triple check to make sure we players know what they're talking about? You should see the nightmare of trying to install the Alyx nude mod. You've got to go to three or four different websites just to get the instructions.

Some people's games don't have the same path and folders as others. If we're supposed to make folders then those guys should let us know.

Illuminati, sure, we 'assume' but we have to understand that we lose customers and supporters when we don't lay down things clearly. It may seem to be a pain but there are new customers every day. We owe it to the new and present fans to be as clear in our instructions as we can. That leaves more time for more profitable enterprises. A prime example is this thread regarding 'how' to install the infamous Alyx nude mod:

http://www.digitalutopia.org/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=148&postdays=0&postorder=asc&start=0

If you'll notice it took ten pages where only two posts were needed to resolve things. Often us geek heads get lazy or arrogant or condescending and forget that we once had to start off with baby steps too.

We can 'assume' that our knowledge of installation or modding is correct but history has proven it's best to be able to access the direct formulas and directions instead of 'assuming' what to do thus goofing up our gaming experiences.

So how about the simple PATH considering the many times people have said that certain folders don't contain the folders specified during your installation process. If we have to create them, then let us know. If they create themselves, let us know. That's all and really thanks for making things fun with this game.

it does remove clothes, but there is nothing under Mossmans clothes, it's just modeled that way. it works on every model and in every map, but it can't make Mossman look nude. that command is normally used for removing sights, silencers or something useless from custom guns.

thanks Nahka, that explains it fully! I guess we'd have to make a new Mossman model from scratch then.

Now if someone would PLEASE post the path installation for us. The instructions posted here may work in some people's games but not ours. The secondary garrysmod folder doesn't have Materials/Models folders and when we make one they don't work but maybe we're doing something wrong.

Okay, I give up. Put all the folders in the correct folders and no models appear, however I've lost about a dozen or more models in other folders. I'm going to uninstall this once and for all and just use the cinematic mod instead. Waiting for a response around here has turned into an occupation.

God, now I see what you're doing wrong. Leave the Lua, Material, and models folder in the FakeFactorysmodel folder and put that one folder into your addons folder. Then take the Alyx folder and make a models folder in you materials folder and put the Alyx folder in there models folder.

Okay that worked but I don't know why it didn't work 3 times before. Thanks and after all this I'll compile all this info in a simple install file. There's some fellows on other message boards having a problem installing too. I'll link to this thread. The key was leaving the 'fakefactorymodel' folder intact.

Cool! So far all textures appear this time out and no bugs!

Now how about a nifty neato explanation on how to use any of these Alyx models as the default Alyx for in game action? Would it work in HL2, Ep1 and Ep2? Any exact tutorials?

In the next release I've found the small missing textures. it turns out they weren't missing and they're all one texture. The problem was that in the .vft the file path was wrong it was "models/Dog/SUPPORT_CAS" it's supposed to be "models/Alyx/SUPPORT_CAS" So in the next release, 0 missing textures.

It has nothing to do with me. I put all the folders/files in the right places. I was talking about the .vmt. If you've ever opened a .vmt it look something like this:

"LightmappedGeneric"
{
"$basetexture" "carvedstone/brick_wall01"
"$surfaceprop" "brick"
"$bumpmap" "carvedstone/brick_wall01_normal"
}
It was not en error on my end.

It's not difficult, just rename whatever .mdl file you would like to be alyx to "alyx.mdl" I imagine every alyx in here would work, but the civilians may not.

Thanks particlemen, but what about these instructions at the top of the page:

"Note: this will mess up the default Valve Alyx model's textures. To fix this you can take any model you like from this pack and make it the new default Alyx model. To do this just take the .mdl, .phy, .dx80.vtx, .dx90.vtx, .sw & .vtx and rename them all to "Alyx" and obviously leave the extensions."

Do we have to do all that or just rename the .mdl file?

Okay I got it. Just have to see which .mdl goes to which Alyx! smile

Once we rename the files do we leave them in the same folder or put them in a different folder?

Hey, can we use the ACK in the Cinematic Mod to choose which Alyx we want in game play?

Evolbaby, how did you get the models to work in HL2?

Did you use them in one of the older versions of the Cinematic Mod, or in "vanilla" HL2? Do they work with EP1 and EP2?

I can't for the life of me get any one of them to show up properly.

Manx, I havent' gotten them to work in HL2, Ep1, or Ep2 yet. Just Garry's Mod and that was a pain to do as people round here don't respond. I had to go to 3 other message boards and tolerate all kinds of abuse just to get things to work.

For some reason, laying out easy instructions for things by people is more of a challenge than playing the game itself. Don't even get me started on the nonsense trying to install the Alyx nude mod. It was like searching for the lost treasure of the Pharoahs. I've asked around and as usual, I'll have to figure it out all by myself and when I do I'll post and contact you.

I ought to set up my own HL2 troubleshooting website for cryin' out loud.

I can't speak for anyone else on this matter, but the reason why I have not be able to respond is because of personal matters. What exactly are you having problems with? I thought we got installing the model in Gmod handled. To make an alyx from this pack to be your default Alyx, all you have to do is take anyone of the models from the models folder that in your "FakeFactory models" folder in your "addons" folder and rename the .mdl only to "Alyx". Then take that model file and it's other dependant files such as the .phy and others and put them into your garrysmod secondary folder then find the "Models" folder and dump them in there. Now, on using these models in HL2, you're going to have to take all the textures from this pack and put them in the "Materials ->Models" folder of HL2. Note if you don't have those folders, make them. Make sure you put them into the "Half-Life 2 -> HL2" folder, this is the equivalent of garrysmod's secondary folder. I've given you all the information you need, now please try to control your selfs in the future.

Well everything is working fine now, thanks Illuminati. Didn't mean to ruffle your feathers. Besides, now this page has keyword rich data and more fans will find the page.

The mistake I was making was naming all the support files Alyx as well because the original instructions I misunderstood.

Thanks again!

Still not clear as to whether or not you've gotten these models to work on cm 7 in any/all episodes?

On another thread I asked about making giant NPCs. Was told by FF himself that wasn't a good idea, so I cognited that perhaps I should make the maps/environments smaller instead. Is it possible? Can we shrink the NPCs too?

These models are for Garrysmod only. So to answer your question, no.

Thanks for the info. Any plans to make them available for game play?

As you all have seen FakeFactory has released Cinematic Mod 8. It's going to take some time for me download it all, install it, get the Alyx models that I think will be the best, the for the hard part picking out the textures that the models use and making sure they don't conflict with the existing textures in my model pack. More information once I get everything downloaded and installed.

Oh my god. This is an absolutely incredible mod. I have spent the last five days doing very little with my spare time except toying with this mod. A sad commentary in and of itself, but nevertheless fun. I will post a link to the pics I have made with this sometime (flesh-eating zombies + Aly5.mdl + "blood" texture = Paradise).

Neither this nor the patch download for me. I instantly get a 0kb .rar that's corrupt and won't open. Other files work fine, just those two won't download.

When I try to download, it doesn't even start. It comes up with the Open/save thing and I click open ( I have also clicked save) and in about 2 seconds the download "appears" to be done, but then says that the file is damaged. It's really annoying me...

Sorry for double-posting, but I just realized I have the same problem as ZanderArch. So it's not just my computer, there's something wrong with your file, you may need to upload it again...

I no longer support HL2files to host my pack anymore. Last I heard they took these files down.

Do you need Garry's Mod 10 to run this mod? (because the directories are all different from the ones you listed) and I only have Gmod 9 and this mod doesn't work. thx
